A Corner of Charleston's History: The Powder Magazine

Ammunitions were not actually stored in the magazine until 1717, when a new slate roof was added. Prior to this the existing roof did a poor job of keeping the rain off the gun powder. The Act of 1719, directed merchants and private individuals to also store their ammunition in the magazine for a monthly fee paid to the town.
