In 1995, having assumed the responsibility for the repair and operation of The Powder Magazine under a ten year lease, Historic Charleston Foundation began faithfully and factually restoring the building to its approximate appearance today. Since the return of The Powder Magazine to the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in The State of South Carolina in 2003, more minor repairs have been completed and a reorganization of its operation and focus is underway. The Powder Magazine, the oldest public building remaining in both North and South Carolina, would welcome a visit from you!
