A Corner of Charleston's History: St. Philip's Episcopal Church
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 146 Church Street
In April of 1670, 150 British settlers sailed into what is now known as Charles Towne Landing. To service the Anglicans’ spiritual needs, the first St. Philip’s Episcopal Church was built in 1683, on the corner of Broad and Meeting Streets. Anglicans were members of the Church of England.
