A Corner of Charleston's History: The Powder Magazine
This iron rod was put in prior to the devastating earthquake of 1886
A magazine can be defined as a building, room or place, to store gunpowder, arms and other explosives. It was called The Old Powder Magazine because it was the first of many magazines to be built in Charles Towne. It is one of the few buildings where the earthquake rod is visible inside the structure.
