A Corner of Charleston's History: The Powder Magazine
The Powder Magazine around 1902

The entire time The Powder Magazine was used by the city it rested on private property. It wasn’t until 1745, through a court petition that the city had to start paying rent. About 1820, the building reverted back to private use until it was purchased in 1902, by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in The State of South Carolina.
